Below is a video animatic of our storyboard, for the opening of the of 'Elements'.

Actors: Protaginists

We are soon to go into Production of our movie opening and have finally found
the actresses who will be playing the main protagonists in our project. The three
girls we have picked take Drama A-Level in our school and we have seen them
act, they seemed to be the perfect choice for the job.

Zoe Chapple as Flo

The character of Flo is the most mature out of the three characters and we needed
an actress who looked like a strong character and able to be a surrogate sought of
mother to the other two. We thought Zoe was the perfect choice due to her look
and off course her acting is very good. I like to relate Zoe's look to '
Invisibility Woman' in the "Fantastic 4" movies who is also a strong character
to the superhero group.

Effie Robinson as Autumn

Effie has a very powerful look to her in which we thought would fit perfectly with
the character of 'Autumn' as the character is a successful woman who earns a lot of money.
Effie was the perfect choice for Autumn due to her acting and also, we want the audience
to be able to understand the characters status (which is high). The character is written and
hopefully performed very stereotypical on rich people, for example the voice needs to be
posh and how she would hold bags of shopping or hold her mobile phone.

Jessica Young as Scarlett

The character of Scarlett is a unemployed young woman who is a bit of a rebel and still acts
like a teenager most of the time. Jessica was our main person to play Scarlett as she is a
strong actress and had the look to her we wanted. The character also is not a very
fashionable person so we wanted to make sure that even though this character was
unemployed and hardly has a living, she still had an interesting look to her.

Why do people watch Comic Book Movies?

Why do people actualy enjoy going to see comic book movies?

I think that often people will look up to the lead charecters a lot, because of the powers that they have and how they use it, for example captain america is an icon of the american nation, he is the protecter and also 'the avenenger' of the nation. So they will look up to him as a hero. This is also common in other charecters such as the green lantern and Professor X becuase they use their powers for the good of the nation or of the world, they choose to use them for good as well, so people respect them for it.

Also as their alter egos, people may relate to them, for example the green lantern was just a normal guy, untill he gained his powers through the ring, for this reason, the audience will be able to relate to the charecter, or may feel sorry for them because of the struggles and stress which the charecters gain, as they gain more responsibitly of being a hero.


Because the characters are in a way, two different people, they will gain either double the respect or double the hate from the viewers, depending on how they choose to use their powers.


This is key to how a character is portrayed, and how the story will be layed out for the rest of the movie.

Naratives

Often in the narrartives in the openings of superhero movies we find out about the origin story or how the superhero gains their powers. This is obviously a pivotal point for a superhero movie, as the whole film is likely to revolving around them as the hero. This will be interesting for both a fan of the movie and will also create understanding for somone who is new to the series.


For this reason quite a lot of the narratives of these films are quite charecterer based. For example, where Peter Parker gains his powers is revolved around him as a charecter, in his 'normal' everyday life. We see him and what he does in his normal life, as a photographer,


I think that this is something that we should definately focus on in the opening, as it is something that will be able to achieve well.

Logos/Colours

Logos and colours are fundamental to identifying a superhero and are a main part of these kind of movies, for example Iron Man obviously has an Iron tinted logo and armour, as they all link together.

This is seen by the pictures above, the logo takes on a similar set of colours to his suit and also link to the name 'IRON Man' 

Another example of this is The Green Lantern, who's logo, suit and name all link together. This seems to be a trend throughout most superhero movies. So  this is something we must carefully consider when creating our logo/identity for our opening.

Characters/ Costumes

Costume is obviously a big part of the movie when it comes to superheroes, however most superheroes also have an 'alter ego', for example Batman is also Bruce Wayne in the comics and movies.

As it is unlikely for us to be able to create the amazing costumes that they have in super hero movies nowadays, I think it may be more appropriate to look at 'the hidden' life or the alter life the the heroes live.

This is Peter Parker from the spiderman movies, this is the kind of dress wear that he has on when he is out taking photos and being spiderman. 

As you can see, as most superheroes like to blend in, he is wearing just normal everyday clothes. However, he is still wearing fairly smart clothes, but nothing too flashy. He looks nothing like a super hero guy would, he almost looks 'geeky' especially with the hair and the glasses.

This shows that we can still use everyday clothes in a superhero movie, especially if we stick to their 'secret' side of the story.

This is shown again through alter egos, for example Bruce Wayne who is Batman, Tony Stark who is Iron Man for example, they often wear suits but sometimes they do dress down, especially when they are not 'in their super hero status'. This is somthing we should definitely consider when creating our opening scenes.
